Newly categorized human organs

Introduction:

We have been studying our anatomy for thousands of year and yet we haven't found and categorized all the types of tissues or organs in our human body.

The human body hasn't suddenly started growing new body parts!!! Instead, scientists are refining the language used to describe the parts of the body and to ways those parts function.

In many cases, new functions of known body parts are found and those findings cause scientists to adopt new terminology or restructure our anatomical vocabularies and doing so can lead to more discoveries in the future.

Two new organs in human body:

1. Interstitium
2. Mesentry

1. Interstitium

It is a complex network of interconnected fluid-filled compartments supported by connective tissues. These are generally found below the skin.

Previously, researcher throught that the interior part of skin was simply a layer of dense connected tissue. But later on it is categorized as an organ.

Functions of Interstitium:

⏩ These interstitium spaces contain a meshwork of collagen protein, which allows it to shrink and expand, which act as a shock absorber.

⏩ It keeps our organ in place and keeping them from tearing or otherwise floating in our bodies.

⏩ It is also connected to our lymphatic system, draining to our lymph nodes and removes bacteria from different tissues.

Big role of Interstitium:

It is also a source of lymph, which is a huge deal because lymphatic fluid is essential part of our immune system, carrying cells that fight infection.

But it also plays a major role in the spread of cancer. When cancer metastasis, it spreads from it's tissue of origin to other parts of the body through the blood on the lymph. So understanding the Interstitium as a new key player in the lymphatic system could give us a better understanding of cancer and how and why it spreads.

2. The mesentry:

It is a fan shaped muscular organ, consisting of 2 layer of blood vessels, nerves,  lymph nodes and fat. The average length of this mesentry is 20 cm. This newly classified organ attach  to the intestine's wall of your abdomen.

Now after extensive microscopic examination, researchers have reclassified the mesentry as a single structured long continuous piece of tissue.

Functions of mesentry:

⏩ It generally holds the small and large intestine from the posterior abdominal wall.

⏩ It anchors them in place, while still allowing some movement.

⏩ It also provides a conduit for blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic vessels. It is predicted to play a pathological role in some inflammatory diseases such as Crohn’s disease.

How these new organs were discovered:

These new organs were spotted when researcher looked at live human tissue with a new imaging technique known as the confocal laser endomicroscopy.

This technique take multiple 2-D images at different depths which enables it to construct a 3-D image of the sample. This technique generally enhances the optical resolution and contrast of the sample and by doing so it gives us, what we want.

This type of posts took a lot of efforts. Your opinions and sharing will be massively appreciated.
